Stephen F Austin State Park

The weekend in the new camper turned out to be a pleasant experience. Our friends, the Henry’s, were able to get a last minute cancelation and camped also. The park is small and quiet with lots of nearly tame deer wandering through the woods by the campsites. I didn’t get a good picture of the deer but Jake and I saw 7 of them on Saturday morning early while taking a walk. Really cool since none of the deer spooked as we edged in closer for a better look. Below in the pic you might spot the two deer passing behind our camp Sat morning.

Kris and I rode our bikes all over the park and took walks with the doggins. At one point we took the truck over to our friends campsite and on the way back stopped at the bathhouse. I was in the backseat of the truck with Jake and Moses when suddenly the truck was surrounded by little red-headed boys laughing and screaming “that dog has a beard.” It was funny as hell except when the kids started putting their faces on the window as they looked in. Jake and Moses went into protective mode and I thought “oh no” it’s an unwritten chapter from Children of the Corn or Lord of the Flies. When Kris and Barb got back into the car I was still laughing uncontrollably.

I almost forgot. We had a little excitement when we woke up Saturday morning. Kris had sat the small plastic drawer outside overnight that we keep various necessities and oddball stuff stored in. Neither one of us remembered the ziplock baggie of dog food in the insulated zipped bag in the top drawer. When I went outside on Sat am I noticed the top drawer looked wonky and bent down to take a look. The local raccoons had worked as hard as possible to get the drawer open but didn’t succeed. They did manage to claw open the insulated bag and tear a hole in the dog food bag. Score- raccoons 1 and humans 0. We know better but were tired and forgot on Friday nite.

Saturday afternoon and evening we had great burgers and played domino’s with our friends at their camp. And then, it was Sunday morning and time to tear down. It was a perfect weekend in the gorgeous spring weather to try out the new camper. Till next time, K&K

A maiden voyage begins.

Here we are once again camping but this time in our newer and larger Coleman Dutchman Lantern 17B. After the December trip to Cali and back we decided a bathroom with a bit more space was needed. We’re still setting up today at a small Texas Park outside of Houston. We’ve been here before and like the quiet beauty of this park. Plus they have new bathhouses we discovered last tume in the A-frame. Anyway, on a br3ak but time to finish setting up. I’ll be back with more pics soon.
